LaVerne Markert, 88, of Tallula, passed away on April 27, 2024. LaVerne was born in Petersburg on July 29, 1935, the daughter of the late Willy and Mae Weidhuner. LaVerne married Fred Markert on August 28, 1981, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Petersburg.
LaVerne is survived by her husband Fred; her son Wil Baum (Jenny) of Greenview, son Doug Baum (Tammy) of Kannapolis, NC, daughter Julie Moeller (Rich) of Lee's Summit, MO; sisters Louetta Collins and Loretta Meyer; 6 grandchildren: Jeremy Baum, JD Baum, Nicole Wernette, Melissa Moeller, John Moeller, Zach Moeller; and 4 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her brother, Richard Weidhuner.
LaVerne was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she played the organ, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years. LaVerne enjoyed reading and quilting.
