Marjorie "Marj" Hinds, 60, of Petersburg, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at
Springfield Memorial Hospital, after a drunk driver collided with her vehicle. She was born
November 18, 1963, the daughter of Elmer F. and Doris K. (McLaughlin) Hinds in Springfield,
Illinois. She married Patricia "Trinket" Eckler on December 13, 2014, in Springfield.
Marj was a graduate of PORTA high school, class of '81. She went on to receive a Masters in
social work from the University of Illinois. She served both St. Johns and Memorial hospitals as a
social worker. Marj supported the LGBTQ + community, and loved a good drag show. She was a
member of the Parkway Christian Church in Springfield where she enjoyed serving as the clerk
and in many other capacities around the church. Her greatest joy in life was being a mom and
Mamoo to her grandchildren. Marj was an avid reader. She belonged to two book clubs and
enjoyed library book sales. She loved jigsaw puzzles and you would often see he
